  181.     1. The scale of assessments is based is the real capacity to
  182. pay of Member States. The Assembly has fixed a maximum of 25
  183. percent of the budget for any one contributor and a minimum of 0.01
  184. percent.

  187.     4. By resolution 2758 (XXVI) of 25 October 1971, the General
  188. Assembly decided "to restore all its rights to the People's
  189. Republic of China and to recognize the representatives of its

  191. United Nations, and to expel forthwith the representatives of
  192. Chiang Kai-shek from the place they unlawfully occupy at the United
  193. Nations and in all the organizations related to it".

  195.     6. Egypt and Syria were original Members of the United Nations
  196. from 24 October 1945. Following a plebiscite on 21 January 1958,
  197. the United Arab Republic was established by a union of Egypt and
  198. Syria and continued as a single Member. On 13 October 1961, Syria
  199. resumed its status as an independent State and simultaneously its
  200. United Nations membership. On 2 September 1971, the United Arab
  201. Republic changed its name to Arab Republic of Egypt.
  202.     7. The Federation of Malaya joined the United Nations on 17
  203. September 1957. On 16 September 1963, its name was changed to
  204. Malaysia, following the admission to the new federation of
  205. Singapore, Sabah (North Borneo) and Sarawak. Singapore became an
  206. independent State on 9 August 1965 and a United Nations Member on
  207. 21 September 1965.

  209.     9. Tanganyika was a United Nations Member from 14 December 1961
  210. and Zanzibar was a Member from 16 December 1963. Following
  211. ratification on 26 April 1964 of Articles of Union between

  213. Zanzibar continued as a single Member, changing its name to the
  214. United Republic of Tanzania on 1 November 1964.
